Driver Fitting

No shaft in the bag amplifies a flex mismatch louder than a driver shaft. A board-tested driver fitting is usually the single biggest swing in carry and accuracy we see in a session.

What Gets Measured

The Shaft First, Then the Head

Before a demo head ever gets swung, candidate driver shafts go across the deflection board so we know their tip stiffness, mid-section bend, and butt flex independently — not just a single flex letter covering all three.

From there we log your swing: transition timing, tempo ratio, and attack angle. A shaft that loads well for an aggressive downswing move can feel completely wrong for a smoother, later release, even at an identical swing speed.

What Actually Moves in a Driver Fitting

Shaft Deflection Profile

We test tip, mid, and butt sections independently, since two shafts sharing a flex letter can still bend at different points along the length.

Tempo Match

A late, aggressive release usually calls for a stiffer tip section than a smoother, earlier transition — even at the same clubhead speed.

Head Design & MOI

Moment of inertia shapes forgiveness on off-center strikes. Higher-MOI heads resist twisting; lower-MOI heads suit players who shape shots on demand.

Loft & Face Angle

Adjustable hosels let us dial loft in half-degree steps once the shaft profile is locked in, not before.

Length

A shorter, better-controlled build frequently beats a longer one on center-strike percentage, which usually outweighs a few yards of theoretical distance.

Grip Size

Grip diameter changes hand action through impact, which can quietly shift face angle at contact. We check it on every driver reading.

Common Misses

What a Board-Tested Fitting Tends to Fix

The Slice

Often a face-to-path issue, but an over-flexed tip section can leave the face open longer through impact than the golfer realizes.

Low, Knuckling Shots

A shaft too stiff for the load being applied can suppress launch and spin together, dropping shots out of the air short of potential.

Ballooning in the Wind

Excess spin from an under-flexed shaft sends shots up and back. A stiffer tip section, paired with reduced loft, flattens the flight.

Inconsistent Strike Location

Dispersion scattered across the face often improves once shaft feel matches swing timing, not just once a higher-MOI head is swapped in.
